Three upcoming guest speaking events in Winnipeg

April 23, 2014: University Women's Club, 54 Westgate, Winnipeg
I am invited by the +University Women's Club of Winnipeg to be the guest speaker at their April 23 dinner at Ralph Conner House on 54 Westgate, Winnipeg @ 5:30pm. The club is more than 100 years old and the club house is located in one of the most stately homes in Winnipeg. I had the privilege of having lunch there last month when the guest speaker was Anna Hannesson, wife of the Icelandic Consul General for Manitoba. I was at the club house more than 30 years ago doing a presentation in the capacity of hairstylist and wardrobe planner. I remembered the house being very stately but I also knew that I would never be a member because I had no university education at that time. Roll forward 30 years and a lot has changed.

April 25, 2014: TGIF dinner at the Scandinavian Centre, 764 Erin Street, Winnipeg
The Scandinavian Centre hosts a monthly dinner and reception on the last Friday of the month. This month the dinner and my presentation will be on April 25.The evening begins with a reception at 5:30pm, followed by dinner at 6:00pm and my presentation at 7:00pm.

The event is open to the public. If you are interested in attending, the all-inclusive dinner fee is $17.50 per person. Reservations can be made by email: or calling 204-774-8047. Reservations are recommended.

April 28, 2014: Match International Women's Fund, 691 Wolsley Avenue, Winnipeg

The third speaking event is at +Match International Women's Fund Manitoba Chapter Annual General Meeting on April 28, at 5:30pm at 691 Wolsley Avenue, Winnipeg. My topic will be Promoting Empowerment in Achieving Full Employment and Decent Work for All.

I am really thrilled to be invited to these events. Two of them are about promoting the status of women both locally, nationally and internationally. The one for the Scandinavian Centre gives me the opportunity to broaden my horizon in my position of Honorary Consul of Guyana to Manitoba. If you can make it to any of these events, It would be great to see you there.

Another article in Global Eyes Magazine

I would like to thank Editor Beatrice Watson of Global Eyes Magazine in Winnipeg for the great article (page 3) that she published in the magazine about my book and my appointment as Honorary Consul of Guyana to Manitoba. Global Eyes is a Manitoba African and Caribbean Quarterly Magazine serving those and other communities.

There were some very interesting articles in this issue including the one about politics and culture colliding when immigrants settle in a new country. I think that that theme resonates within many cultures as we try to figure out where and how we belong - even those of us who are born and raised in our country of birth.
